Appreciation

Boston and New York Child Abuse Lawyers

Cases involving child sexual abuse are devastating. They can occur under many circumstances, in many places and by people such as clergy, family, relatives, school teachers, camp counselors, athletic coaches, medical professionals and foster parents.

Children are inherently trusting and once that trust is betrayed by sexual exploitation, the consequences will almost certainly affect their future. Difficulties in personal relationships, lost employment opportunities, problems at work and psychological damages such as PTSD, depression, guilt, shame, humiliation, anxiety, hospitalization and potentially suicide will typically occur.

Committed to Obtaining Justice

Our law firm https://www.sjsperoandassociates.com has more than 35 years of experience in representing survivors of sexual abuse and litigating cases against sexual perpetrators nationwide.

We and our affiliates in New York, Hach & Rose, https://www.sexabusesurvivorlawfirm.com) are dedicated to helping survivors of sexual abuse. Unfortunately, many victims of childhood sexual abuse are vulnerable to the manipulations or grooming practices that are used by those who perpetrate sexual abuse. Many victims of sexual abuse have been unable to understand the connections from the sexual abuse to the emotional and psychological problems they have experienced as adults. This had previously posed an obstacle to these survivors of sexual abuse to be able to obtain the justice they deserved. BUT NOW THINGS HAVE CHANGED throughout most states in our country. In particular New York and soon New Jersey have enacted laws to extend the Statute of Limitations in sexual abuse to minor's law suits. New York has passed the New York Child Victims Act which allows a person until 55 years old to bring a civil action. In addition at the present, all victims of childhood sexual abuse no matter how old have one year to file a civil action.

In New Jersey it is anticipated that victims of childhood sexual abuse will have until they are 55 years old or seven years from the time they became aware of the assault whichever is later. There will also be a two year "look back" window for older victims of abuse to pursue litigation. This time period will remain available until November 30, 2021.
